FREEDOM
We purchased Freedom, a 1977 Formosa 51 foot ketch, in February of 2004.  Formerly named "Kathleen", Freedom was moved down to Mexico for some repairs.

The name Freedom was inspired by the boat herself.  Spread across her stern is a carved eagle in flight.  This eagle has become the logo of Freedom and appears on our crew shirts and stationery.  The eagle also was the inspiration for the interior design.  Redone in blues and golds, a blue star fabric was given to us and directed the theme for Freedom's interior.  I love to sew and have made all new curtains to give us some privacy in port.  I'm currently working on quilts for all the cabins.  With the addition of an industrial sewing machine, I'm have redone much of Freedom's canvas.  She has a new  bimini complete with built-in lights as well as new sail covers.  Our dream was to bring Freedom to the beautiful sailboat that she could be and begin our journey south.  The first years were spent in clearing dry rot, fixing the electrical problems and getting her running well.  Freedom has new or refurbished standing and running rigging, instruments, batteries, water maker and generator.   Her prior owners moved the galley down across from the lower salon and using much of the original teak, the galley has been transformed.  The outside helm has a new chair and new canvas cushions.  The master stateroom bed has been moved to starboard and expanded into a king-sized bed.  The Nav Station has a pull-out desk and all the new electronics are installed.  We've added a SAT phone, SSB and computer.  The V-Berth sports a new fold-out double bed and the galley salon table has been reworked to drop down making a  queen bed.      Freedom now sleeps 10 comfortably.

Still to come after she heads south,  is a bow thruster and side paint as well as deck paint.

Freedom is a work in progress, but then aren't all boats!  We hope you enjoy your visit.
